Power Point Gizmo!

This product isn't for the typical consumer. I would say it was generated for the business aspect of consuming goods. The "Afterglow" was developed to allow presenters to draw on their presentations. With the use of a USB camera and a laser pointer, one can simply draw on a power point as if it were a blackboard.

The key function to this product is the software that can automatically compensate for geometric distortion and track the movement of the pointer even when the USB camera is placed away from the projector. (gizimodo.com)

With this new technology presenters can make thier presentation more interactive. They will also have the ability to prove a point or answer a question by drawing on the board. This is one technology that, I feel, every company should have.

iPhone Apps are creating a new boom!

With the invention of the iPhone came many great opportunities. Apple, like YouTube, used user generated material to help grow their franchise. If you are unsure of what I am talking about, I am talking about how anyone can create an iPhone app for free and try and sell it through i-Tunes.

In the begining, there were many apps that were highly requested, most of which cost money. Many people profited from this new type of creation. One man made over $6000 by creating an "I'm rich" app that did absolutely nothing! He sold this app for $999 per app.

Seeing that there is a great chance to make some extra income, people have begun to spend day and night trying to create an app that will be popular, and make them money. This new craze has driven people of all skill levels to try and create an iPhone app. People who have never laid eyes on code, or know how to write code, are begining to learn it. They want to jump on the iPhone app bandwagon. Will the ever growing popularity of the app take away from the quality of them? Will this new craze make redundant apps? Who knows! Everything is up in the air, and for now, Apple is going to sit back, relax, and profit off of our inventions!

New iPod

Hey there readers,

I have found something new and interesting to tell you about. Recently Apple released a new iPod, the new iPod Shuffle. It is quite the invention. The new iPod is about the size of a key, but yet can hold up to 1000 songs. (apple.com)

One new additive is a voice over co ntrol. This new application can be easily accessed with the push of a button. As you press the center button a voice appears and the music fades out. So whether you want to know what the title of a song is, or what playlist is playing, the VoiceOver command can help.

Speaking on the lines of playlists, this new iPod Shuffle has built in technology which allows multiple play lists to be added, unlike the previous Shuffle which only allowed some 200 songs. Most convenient of all is the location of the controls. Some controls are placed on the ear-bud cord. This comes in handy when you are riding a bike or running. It allows the user to stay on pace without having to fumble with the iPod to change the song.

And I don't know about any of you, but I hate losing a step or two when I am jogging because I can't find the button to change songs. I have an armband and I always seem to stumble when I try to change songs. Yes the arm band is nice for holding my iPod, but at times it seems to get in my way with its bulk. One advantage the new Shuffle has is its sleek and small design. As mentioned earlier it is the size of a key. This makes the Shuffle nice for all you out there who like to work out. It also comes with a customizable clip, which attaches to nearly any piece of clothing or backpack.

Overall I find that this iPod is the new techno gadget for all those exercise addicts out there. It is small and stylish, but at the same time has enough memory to hold a thousand songs. The Shuffle frees up your body of those bulky carriers and allows for songs to be changed with ease. Now who wouldn't want something like that when they are out for a jaunt?

GreenWheel

Look out Missoula bikers, scientists from MIT have invented something to make your life a little easier. They have invented a motorized bike tire, which they call the GreenWheel. The bike has a range of 25 miles, unless the biker is pedaling which would double the range. The wheel can be charged by either pedaling or by plugging it in.

And if you are concerned with the environment, the greenwheel cuts carbon emissions, the bike it is also made through environmentally friendly process done by A123 Systems.

However there may be one drawback to the GreenWheel, the tire has to have wires connected to and from the batteries, generator and motor.

My background

Hello,

My name is Austin Habich and I am from Butte, MT. I am a junior at the University of Montana. I am getting a Bachelor’s of Science degree in business with an emphasis in Information Systems and a minor in digital graphics. Beyond schooling, I spend a fair share of my time attending meetings for Montana Information Systems Association and tutoring students in the lower division IS classes.

I am like some students who have to work their way through college, but I have been lucky when it comes to employment. I have had the opportunity to work on campus since my freshman year. I worked as an office assistant for two years. However, I have been working with the IT team for the Administration and Finance Department. I spend most of my time at work developing graphics for University web sites.

After spending a semester in IS270 I found my love for technology. With the world needing technology and seeing there are so many options for a career that involves technology, I thought that the Information Systems option would best set me up for success later on in life. Also, the ideas and ways of teaching the IS professors convey attracted me to this option as well.

After graduating from the University I am unsure of what I want to do. One option I am debating on is going back to school and getting my MBA. However, if I don’t continue my education I hope to either get a job working for a consulting company or working as an administrator for a hospital. But for now, everything is up in the air and I not worrying about it. I have a year and a half to decide.
